I have been a patient of Dr.Malott for several years. I must admit, that 4 years back I had a terrible experience with the then receptionist. I gave the office another shot this week, and was I ever so pleased! There are new faces in the office, and they were pleasant/helpful. I had a few spots checked out, and was quite pleased by Dr.Malott's knowledge and explanations. Glad to be back!
I don't think this guy should be allowed to practice. I went to see him about a dark misshapen freckle on my arm. He looked at it briefly and said "Nah! that's nuthin". He proceeded to do a whole body check and found a basal cell carcinoma on my face. It was so small I'd never seen it before and I couldn't see it when he pointed it out. Within a month it puffed up for the first time EVER. Why? I don't know. But that's irrelevant. Basal cell carcinoma is not a very serious problem.
Would you want your dermatologist to mis-diagnose a life threatening disease??
If you are a Maui resident or visitor needing Dr Malott's services, be prepared to be treated with impudent arrogance by the receptionist Carlyn. Having been diagnosed with skin cancer on my head, I called to make an appointment as referred by Dr George Martin. I explained the nature of my call to Carlyn and hoped the process of making an appointment would be smooth. Instead, she started talking about how their fax machine was down last Friday and their office was open half day on Friday (May 31, 2014) which meant they may not have received my papers from Dr Martin's office. I then gave her my last name and lo and behold, she had the papers after all. She then left me hanging on the phone twice while I attempted to make an appointment to see Dr Malott. When she came back on, she wanted a another referral from my physician although Dr Martin had already done so. Then, she said that I have to make an appointment for a consultation first and the earliest date is June 23. I will then have to make another appointment after the consultation. At this stage, I do not know whether I would receive treatment before the condition worsens. Carlyn then asked for my insurance info and gave me another story as to how Dr Malott is the only available person on the island. In other words, we are left with no choice but put up with Carlyn's 'devil may care' attitude. Not once did Carlyn show any compassion. To her, I was just another caller who interrupted her morning. I finished the call, then indulged in a bout of tears, not knowing if I will be treated in time. What an ordeal!!!!
HOWEVER - The spot on my arm that I was concerned about and he said was nothing has turned out to be Melanoma.
On top of that, he sent me a letter shortly after my last appointment with him. It said, "I can no longer be your doctor". There was no explanation. At this point I hoped he was closing his office. But that's not the case.
Don't let this incompetent fool tell you anything!
