This was my third trip to Maui and my third stay at Maui sunset. It's a beautiful condo right on the ocean. Rooms are clean and the grounds are impeccable. The pool and hot tub area is amazing and the bbq area is amazing and kept so clean.
We have been coming to Maui Sunset since 1978 so YEAH we like it. The staff is super friendly, the grounds are immaculate and the rooms are roomy. Each time we come we see little improvements to the units which is wonderful! Thank you Maui Sunset for a lifetime of memories :)
It's a tiny bit dated, maybe not "5*" quality. However it's amazing & the best price I've seen for the area. Haven't seen any pests & the unit is very well cleaned & maintained. It's been perfect & look forward to staying here again. Location is perfect for beaches & shopping both. Middle of the island gives us the freedom to easily get anywhere else on the island. It's perfectly beautiful here in Kihea though.
The building and our unit was pretty clean overall though you can see the stray beetle or yes...roach though that's life in the tropics a bit. I've seen some of that even at Marriott's. The only other downside was that all the units have wall-mount individual air conditioning units. Unless they are pretty new, most of these have some issues and can have mold as well as the annoyance of kicking on and off all night etc. A small thing to many but worth a mention as it was a slight challenge for me as I am very allergic to things.
Good value for the price. Units are individually owned so some are much nicer than others. Ours was quite outdated to be honest but the view made up for a lot of it.
Great location. The units are a mix of tone shares and privately owned so they vary in styles and comfort. Ours had wicked hard beds in the bedrooms, but all other amenities to make you feel at home were available. (Minus laundry detergent for the wash). The hot tub and pool area was great. Not too many kids running wild. And only a few yards to the beach. Their concierge was able to get us discount tickets and rent us paddle boards for the day. Very close to all the great beaches and shopping in kihei.
The building and grounds are overall well kept and it is very family-friendly and the mix of more permanent residents and renters seemed to work out pretty well. They have a lot to do and rentals of gear (most free) for fun games.
It's not a resort so keep that in mind. Those are down in Wailea and a different experience. But the condo was great with the family and we were able to get groceries at Costco or the other grocery stores and saved a lot of money cooking almost all of our own meals plus having laundry in the units is really nice.
