Kathy, though, said she was "just helping out the owners" when she ultimately chose not to do her job and leave us out in the bug bitten swelter for 2.5 hours before breaking the law and getting us into another unit she didn't have access to
Shady shady shady. If I owned this unit (and we are seriously considering buying for next year) I would fire her and share this incredible story with anyone else who needs a property manager in maui.
My question is: why is Kathy a property manager if she literally doesn't even have a backup key to the unit for emergencies? What if I needed my insulin? What if I was leaving for a flight at that time and missed it?
I am vacationing on Maui for 11 days with my partner and we are renting a unit managed by owners who work with Maui Rentals. The owners are on the mainland and rely on Kathy and Maui Vision rentals as the property manager for maintenance and other management issues. Last night, we were locked out of our room due to the lock being broken inside (the code worked and was approved but the inside mechanism didn't turn the pin to open, very frustrating and unforseeable) of course that isn't the problem. I called the owners first then called Kathy as instructed to do in the event of an emergency like this.
Kathy was all but helpful. She asked me to send a video of the lock and tried explaining to me how it should work. She then called the housekeeper for the unit (who doesnt even work for her) who drove all the way here to try her code only to realize the lock was broken as we explained to Kathy. After literally 2.5 hours and 20+ phone calls, Kathy's resolution was to stick us in an adjacent unit that she didn't have permission to enter, the owner didn't even know we were there - and we had none of our belongings or life-saving medications. Her next step was to call a locksmith who she said would be there bright and early at 7:00 - they never showed or called or anything.

Kathy spent the better part of 2 hours literally failing hard. Her answer was that she was trying and that we are okay until the morning.
Kathy and Maui Vision Rentals are unprofessional, incompetent, and literally could care less about your property and her duties as a property manager. F-
