The monitors are put in place by the Department of Health to monitor the air quality and determine whether or not it is hazardous. Very seldom do they ever record hazardous levels, and this is because air pollution levels are very seldom elevated much less hazardous. This is not a conspiracy this is the Department of Health doing its job and monitoring the air quality. Maui County does not have an air quality problem, in fact air quality in Maui is the #6 best in the nation.
Overall this is a pretty park if your looking for green grass.....there is a basketball court here also.
The Kihei Air Pollution monitor is in this little park. The Hawaii Department of Health runs the monitor in order to demonstrate that sugar cane burning does not cause air pollution. At the very time these photos were taken, the monitor recorded excellent air quality, although ash was being dumped on the monitor as well as the neighborhood of North Kihei, Dec. 23, 2013 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The ash dump is affectionately called "Maui Snow"; it's black and carcinogenic. Thank you DOH for this fine instrument that DOES NOT WORK.
Childhood times were really fun. Now it's just a run down area to play basketball in.
Because of vandalism, all play structures etc. have been removed from this park.
